Remodeling your bathroom for you and your lifestyle? There are many reasons for remodeling your bathroom. For each homeowner the reasons may vary. The familes of today want more from a bathroom then the traditional bath or shower bath combination. In addition to just being functional, familes are looking to make their bathroom a soothing environment where they can relax after the business of the day. More amenities are being added to the bathrooms of today, and a bathroom remodeling project may include the addition of a sauna or steam room and may also reach to a whirlpool bath.
Developing your bathroom design
Evaluate your space, do some research online and in magazines, to help you develop your new bathroom design. Think about which fixtures you will want, and what style pleases you.
Think Differently About Bathroom Decor
One of the drawbacks with bathroom decor, is that we look at it as only a bathroom. Think differently. So you are tired of the way it looks and need a little change. Get into a diffent mind frame.

It is just a room in your home. Look around at what you have to start with if you remove all the decor items. Well, let me back up. Remove them.

Now you have a basic room. What do you have left to work with? Probably your bathroom has some very basic colours. White comes to mind. Most likely your bathroom is mostly white, or maybe you have bisque fixtures. Very basic. The wall colour can be anything with just a simple coat of paint.

These are the elements that are not easy to change. What you are left to consider is what colour your cabinetry, fixtures, and flooring are. Begin there, and think about what colors make you feel good and you are comfortable with.

Just decorate your bathroom as any room in your house for a change without thinking of the function except where practical.

Put a fresh coat of paint on the walls in a colour that blends well with what is there, and that makes you feel good. With that done, begin to decorate as you would in any other room of the house.

Find decor items that work well with the colour scheme and fit the scale of the room and are pleasing. Think beyond sea themes i.e. fish, shells and lighthouses. Create a room that is pleasing to you with a fresh new look and let your imagination fly .

Look in the nooks and crannies around your home for decor items that are not currently in service. So what if they were once in a living room or bedroom. If they create a pleasing atmosphere it doesn't matter.

Be creative, and live a little. You spend much of your life in a bathroom bathing, grooming and attending to your needs. Make it a more enjoyable experience.

1. Choose the Right Colours
Light colours make a room feel more open and inviting. In small bathrooms, it´s especially important to use a light, airy colour scheme for the walls, floor, and ceiling. For visual interest, use bright accents, such as towels and wall decorations, to perk up the room and let your style shine through.
2. Make Sure There´s Plenty of Light
Nothing makes a room feel as claustrophobic as dark shadows. Make your small bathroom feel open and inviting by ensuring that there is plenty of light. You can be creative with your light sources, installing recessed lighting in the ceilings, installing sky lights or enlarging existing windows, and using wall sconces and decorative lighting for a more interesting look.

3. Use Mirrors to Expand Your Space
Windows are an effective way to make any room seem much larger. Mirrors also reflect light, adding to the bright and airy feeling of your small bathroom. Aside from the sink mirror, you can also hang mirrors on the walls as decorations to expand the perceived size of your room.

4. Fight Clutter Mercilessly
Clutter can make even the largest of rooms look too small; in an undersized bathroom, clutter is the enemy. Keep the number of items that you display in the open to an absolute minimum. Use one beautiful, larger accent piece or wall hanging instead of a number of smaller pieces.

5. Replace Oversized Furniture
Vanities, medicine cabinets, and shelves can eat up the space in any bathroom. To maximize the room in your small bathroom, replace vanities with pedestal sinks and look for more creative ways to store towels, toiletries, and other necessary items.
